Robert A. Young Ph.D. President and Chief Executive Officer
Robert A. Young, Ph.D., is president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Tessera, a role he stepped into in May 2011. He also serves on the Tessera board, which he joined in 1991 as a founding investor and for which he was chairman from 1996 to 2002.¬
Prior to Tessera, Young managed personal private equity investments in early stage technology companies through IRT, Inc., before which he was chairman and CEO of Curl Corporation, an Internet infrastructure software company. He was previously a senior partner and managing director at Dillon, Read & Co. Inc., an investment bank, where he had corporate finance responsibility for information technology companies, and for which he served as the managing general partner of venture capital funds from 1987 to 1994.
Young started his business career with IBM, where, over an 18 year period, he held a number of management and executive positions. His last position at IBM was as president, IBM Instruments, a fully integrated global company with operations in the U.S. and Europe, and with products consisting of scientific instruments and scientific computers. Young served as a director of ATI Technologies (NASDAQ: ATYT), a leading producer of 3-D graphics and multimedia products, until its merger with AMD in 2006.
Young is also a co-founding managing director of Mirador Capital LLC, a private equity firm invested in U.S. venture capital firms. He has served on the visiting committees at MIT for both the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and the Department of Chemistry. He is an advisor to PolyTechnos, a European venture capital firm headquartered in Munich. Young holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Delaware.
Michael Anthofer Executive Vice President and CFO
Michael Anthofer is executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) of Tessera. Anthofer joined the company in September 2008 and is responsible for the company's finance office, accounting, strategic planning and investor relations. He brings more than 30 years of technology company financial expertise to his position as he works to expand Tessera's business footprint, and help manage and execute its long-term growth strategy.
Anthofer came to Tessera from Kodiak Networks Inc., a privately held provider of mobile solutions to wireless providers, which he joined in 2003 as vice president and CFO. Prior to Kodiak, he served as senior vice president and CFO of Smartpipes Inc., a maker of network access control software. Before joining Smartpipes, Inc., in 2001, Anthofer was senior vice president and CFO of Concentric Network Corp., which merged with Nextlink Communications to form XO Communications. During his tenure, he grew the company from $2 million in annual revenue to over $250 million in five years, and was instrumental in taking the company public in August of 1997. Prior to Concentric, Anthofer served as executive vice president and CFO of Shared Resources Exchange Inc., a digital switching equipment maker. Earlier, he held several vice president level positions at DSC Communications Corporation, a Fortune 1000 corporation.
Anthofer earned a master's degree in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley, and a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from U.C. Berkeley.
Edmundo Ruiz Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer
Edmundo Ruiz is Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Tessera Technologies, Inc. Ruiz oversees all company administrative functions including Information Technology (IT), Human Resources, Facilities and Security. He will also have corporate responsibility for strategic initiatives
Ruiz brings to Tessera an extensive history of successful business management and substantial global experience. He joins Tessera from iSoftStone, which he joined in 2009 as senior vice president, leading European business operations and strategy. Previously he served as vice president of international IT and operations at Avaya, where he was responsible for integrating a 5,000 employee acquisition, executing business process re-design and IT consolidation. Before Avaya, Ruiz served as global CIO and head of eBusiness for Siemens Mobile. Ruiz later became global head of IT Infrastructure and CIO for EMEA at Siemens AG, where he was responsible for 40 CIO organizations in Europe and managed all IT and eBusiness initiatives.
Edmundo earned his MS in Management from the Sloan Fellows Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his BSEE from the Monterrey Institute of Technology.
Bernard "Barney" J. Cassidy Executive Vice President and General Counsel
Bernard J. "Barney" Cassidy is general counsel and executive vice president of Tessera. Cassidy joined Tessera as its general counsel and senior vice president in November 2008.
Before coming to Tessera, Cassidy served for more than nine years as general counsel and senior vice president for Tumbleweed Communications Corp., where he was responsible for corporate development and legal matters. Prior to Tumbleweed, he practiced law at Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati, and at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Cassidy also served as law clerk to the Honorable John T. Noonan, Jr., a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
Cassidy holds a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Mass.; a master's degree in philosophy from the University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario; and a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Loyola University, New Orleans, La. While at Harvard Law School, he was a research assistant to Professor Arthur R. Miller, focusing on federal civil practice and procedure, and served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review.
Richard Chernicoff President, Tessera Intellectual Property Corp.
Richard Chernicoff is president of Tessera Intellectual Property Corp. Chernicoff oversees strategy and operations as he leads efforts with companies that use Tessera's patented inventions that enable new levels of miniaturization and product performance in electronics.
Chernicoff brings significant licensing experience and expertise, including a deep customer and industry network, to his new role. He joins Tessera from Unity Semiconductor, which he joined in 2009 as president. Previously, he served as senior vice president of business development for SanDisk Corporation, where he structured, negotiated and closed more than 20 intellectual property transactions with companies worldwide. Before SanDisk, from 2000 to 2003, he was an M&A partner at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison LLP, where his teams closed transactions totaling over $3.5 billion. Prior to Brobeck, Chernicoff was a corporate attorney at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.
Chernicoff holds a juris doctorate from St. John's University Law School in Queens, New York, and a bachelor's of science degree in Accounting from California State University, Northridge.
Bob Roohparvar President, DigitalOptics
Bob Roohparvar, Ph.D., is the president of DigitalOptics at Tessera, where his responsibilities include the leadership of DigitalOptics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tessera Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: TSRA). Roohparvar is responsible for the direction, strategy and operations as it drives innovation in imaging and optics with products and capabilities that enable expanded functionality in increasingly smaller devices. His wealth of experience includes deep technical expertise and a unique combination of technical, leadership and execution skills.
Prior to this, Roohparvar worked for Flextronics, which he joined in 2006 as president of FlexPower, and where he served as president and CEO of Vista Point Technology. Under his leadership, these subsidiaries grew into billion dollar businesses. Prior to Flextronics, Roohparvar was vice president and general manager at Broadcom. He has also held management positions at Fairchild Semiconductor and Xicor.
Roohparvar is an associate professor of Computer Engineering at California State University, East Bay. He has also taught at the University of Nebraska and Iowa State University, and holds B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Iowa State University, and is the inventor of multiple patents relating to semiconductor technology
Simon McElrea President, Invensas Corporation
Simon McElrea is president of Invensas Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tessera Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: TSRA), headquartered in San Jose, California. McElrea leads the group in acquiring, developing and monetizing intellectual property (IP) in areas such as, circuitry design, 3-D systems, memory modules and other technologies that enable mobile, storage and consumer electronics devices. Prior to Invensas, McElrea was vice president of Engineering at Tessera where he led the worldwide engineering and R&D organizations for the company's Micro-electronics segment.
McElrea has more than 15 years of executive, technical and operational management experience in semiconductor and green technology businesses. Before joining Tessera, he held senior positions at Honeywell Electronic Materials, Amkor Technology, Vertical Circuits Inc. and Johnson Matthey PLC. A native of Northern Ireland, McElrea has lived in the U.S., Europe and Asia, working primarily on new technology ventures and high-volume manufacturing start-ups.
McElrea holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees, with honors, in Engineering Science from Oxford University. He has authored numerous patents in advanced electronics.
Liam Goudge Senior Vice President & General Manager
Liam Goudge is senior vice president heading up Tessera's Corporate Development activity, as well as general manager for Tessera's Corporate Development. Prior to this position, Goudge was general manager for the company's Embedded Image Enhancement Division. Goudge joined Tessera in 2005 when he created the company's first corporate development team to lead the development and execution of the Tessera's growth strategy, including mergers and acquisitions. Goudge played a critical role in the company's entry into the consumer optics market through its acquisitions of Shellcase Ltd., Digital Optics Corporation, Eyesquad, and FotoNation.
Goudge came to Tessera from ARM Holdings plc, where he was one of the company's early employees. During his 11 years at ARM, Goudge held a variety of positions in licensing, sales, product marketing, and business development. His last position was as ARM's director of worldwide business development, where he was responsible for guiding corporate strategy and development, as well as merger and acquisition activity. Prior to ARM, Goudge held managerial positions in marketing at Texas Instruments, in both France and England, where he worked on wireless products for the early GSM cellular market.
Goudge holds a bachelor's degree with honors in Electronic Engineering and French from the University of Nottingham, England. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Marketing from the Cambridge College of Marketing.
